Four stops on the way to Kindergarten.

From first words to first sentences, Train Station meets children where they are and walks with them toward Kindergarten, through the academic year and a summer enrichment program. Here is what the journey looks like, stop by stop.

Our approach

The whole child, on purpose.

Train Station was founded in 2000 to give children a safe, wholesome and friendly place where children learn basic pre-kindergarten skills through a Christ-centered curriculum. Twenty-five years later, that is still the job: spiritual, academic, emotional, social, cognitive and physical growth, all at once, all through the day.

Faith is woven through the week.
Bible lessons, prayer and songs belong to the ordinary rhythm of the week, in every classroom.

Play is how young children learn.
Sensory tables, blocks, dress-up, the play kitchen and the playground are part of the curriculum.

Ready for Kindergarten, at a child’s pace.
Children are taught in small groups by age and ability, and leave having been taught the basics of reading, writing and math.

Every child is known.
An average of one staff member for every eight children, and lead teachers who hold a certificate or degree in education or child development.

Hands on, every day.
A daily art program developed by our own teachers, music and movement time, and hands-on summer enrichment from June to August.

From 2½, children who are not yet potty trained join Preschool 2½ to 3s. Potty-trained children join Preschool, then Pre-K. Not sure which group fits your child? We will talk it through on your tour.

Toddlers

Toddlers start gently, settling into simple routines with teachers who know that a good morning starts with a good goodbye.

Days are built around language, songs and sensory play, with routines like hanging up a coat and finding your own cubby. Toddlers attend full days, two to five days a week.

Preschool and Pre-K

The academic heart of Train Station: early reading, math readiness and a growing confidence in who they are.

Potty-trained children start in Preschool and move up to Pre-K. Circle time builds toward reading with phonics, then handwriting and early math. Bible lessons run through the whole curriculum, and music and movement, daily art and gross motor time round out the week.

Young Fives

Train Station offers a Young Fives class alongside Pre-K. The school will confirm the program description, ages and schedule for this page; until then, the office is the best place to ask whether Young Fives is the right fit for your child.

Built around a working family’s week.

Choose two, three, four or five days a week depending on your child’s program, with up to nine consecutive hours a day included in tuition.

Tuition, fees and vacation credits are on the Tuition and Fees page. Families provide a consistent drop-off and pick-up time so the school can staff to Michigan licensing requirements.

Faith and curriculum

Christ-centered, cover to cover.

Academics follow the Abeka curriculum, a Christian program that teaches reading phonics first, then handwriting and early math, with plenty of practice along the way. Children leave having been taught the basics of reading, writing and math, all from an unapologetically biblical worldview.

Discipline is positive and consistent. Teachers model the behavior they hope to see, speak calmly, explain what is not acceptable, and redirect children toward better choices, with self-control, self-direction, cooperation and respect for God’s Word as the goal.
